I regularly eat at Tabo because the owners are kind, the food is great, and quality of ingredients is consistently high. Their poke and donburi are a big step up from other "fast poke" inspired restaurants in Chicago. Other grab-and-go sushi counters (wherever they are?) can't compete with the quality of fish here. Overall, if you want fast fresh fish or unique + balanced Japanese dishes with seasonal produce for lunch - go here. For what you get and where you get it, the prices are extremely fair.
Sometimes if you're lucky, Takashi himself will plate your dish. -

High hopes and unfortunately it didn't meet my expectation.
Lunch hour decided to stop in food hall for something different and decided on Sushi.
The line was long so my hopes were high that this will be great experience.
Ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll because it wasn't traditional with bacon bits and cilantro so yes I was looking forward.
It's a good hall so I understand limited space while waiting and had no problem where I was standing but the lady who I believe could have been management (sorry no name) mentioned that I had to move down near order pick up was (and there were plenty of people over there eating at the counter so that left me to hover over):( ok no problem.
It was a little wait but I did ask for Tempura so I know this will be full of flavor. Once the chef give me my roll I was off to races or back to the office to enjoy. Nicely packaged but it wasn't a home run for me. It was ok...it lack that wow factor for me at least. The roll was very small too...oh well win some you lose some.
Oh by the way before I asked to move there were three women sitting at the counter waiting for someone to explain the process and take their order. The same lady that spoke to me did explain that the chefs will take the order when ready....Not one of the chefs took their order nor greeted them. They left -

I did a spicy tuna roll and a dynamite roll "grab and go" along with a Diet Coke since I only had about 15 minutes to run out, grab food, and return to a meeting at the Holiday Inn across the river.
The fish was fantastic. Clearly prepared earlier in the hour that I arrived, the temperature of the rolls was still perfect, and the two rolls filled me up.
The price was NOT fantastic. I bought here because I had some work lunch allowance to throw at this...but should two rolls (one of which is standard maki) and a Diet Coke cost $26.90??????
TWENTY-SEVEN DOLLARS????
Look, I make a good living, but I will never be able to spend my own money here. Is this the most expensive sushi lunch I have ever had? Fact: for $2 more, I could have added miso soup thanks to a special. I almost dropped $30 for lunch yesterday!
It was tasty...but, still. -

On the pricier side, but you def get what you pay for IMO. For $16 you get a bowl of really good miso, a cut roll, and 4 pieces of sushi. The quality of the fish is significantly higher than most lunch places -- comparable to nicer Sushi restaurants like Momotaro or Sunda.

I don't know what all the low reviews are for this place is awesome. Just a little sit down spot where you can order and hang with ur partner or get some of their grab and go sushi. Look the prices arent terrible your in Chicago and it's not gas station sushi we are taking about so it is what it is.
